Marion the Weaver of the Wilde Wode
Award of Arms, Corolla Vitae, Corolla Aulica
Lady Marion joined the SCA in the Fall of A.S. XXVI (1991) in the Shire of
Wolfscairn (Sonoma County) in the Principality of the Mists, Kingdom of the
West, and soon became hooked.
In the early part of 1992, two pivotal events took place - In February, a
newcomer to the shire introduced himself to Marion following Wolfscairn's
business meeting. He took the name Quirin Taliesin and they soon became
inseparable. In the spring, Marion attended a collegium in the Bay Area,
where she learned the skill of card weaving. Immediately becoming intrigued
by this art form, she continued her studies, eventually tackling more
difficult patterns. Marion built a persona around this skill, taking on the
name of Marion Weaver of the Wilde Wode, and even furnished her and
Quirin's first home together by bartering several yards of Ram's Horn (a
very popular design) in exchange for a hand-made trestle table and a small sofa.
Marion and Quirin continued their involvement in Wolfscairn, making many
friends there and in the neighboring Barony of Vinhold. They pursued many
interests, jointly and separately, including archery, dancing and the bardic arts. At the final court of Prince Brand and Princess Megan
Brenna, November, A.S. XXXII (1997), Marion was awarded the Corolla Vitae or
principality arts award, for her work with card weaving. Marion broadened her interest in the textile arts to include inkle weaving and lace making.
She also developed a taste for belly dancing, and expanded her persona's background to encompass the Middle Eastern as well as the Celtic.
In October, A.S. XXX (1995), Marion the Weaver took on the office of
Chronicler for the Shire of Wolfscairn. Her efforts in this area were
successful and she was granted an Award of Arms by Prince Leon and Princess Kiriana in November, A.S. XXXI (1996). Their Highnesses also granted Quirin
an A.A. in April, 1997 for serving as Page School Mentor to Wolfscairn and deputy to the Kingdom Page School Chancellor.
In the Fall of A.S. XXXII Lady Marion was asked to serve as Chronicler for
the principality. Soon afterwards, Lord Quirin took office as Page School
Chancellor for the Kingdom of the West. Lady Marion continued to hold both local and principality offices until she and Lord Quirin moved to
Ravenshore, after which she gradually phased out her duties to Wolfscairn.
Quirin and Marion were married at Mists Fall Investiture, A.S. XXXIII
(1998), in a beautiful ceremony performed by Prince Richard and Princess
Carinne shortly before they departed their thrones.
Lady Marion stepped down as Principality Chronicler at Fall Coronet, A.S.
XXXIV (1999), at which time Prince Chad and Princess Athelisia awarded her
the Corolla Aulica or service corolla. Lord Quirin stepped down as Page
School Chancellor at Twelfth Night, January 2000. The Lord and Lady
Taliesin's involvement with the SCA, while simplified, is far from over
however, and they look forward to the next chapter in their saga.
