BAKLAVA

Preheat oven to 350. Melt butter.

Mix nuts and spices.

Butter 13x9x2 dish.. Lay 4 sheets filo dough in dish. Using pastry brush, butter betwen each sheet.

Alternate handful nut mixture, filo, butter, filo, butter, nuts,,,,etc

After mixture is gone, butter last 4 filo sheets.

Cut 1/4 inch deep in diamond shape. Helpful hint: if you make two different types (one without walnuts for example) vary the shape. Ie, square for no walnuts.

Sprinkle top with water.

Bake for 350 for 30 minutes.

Reduce to 300 for 45 minutes.

After putting Baklava on to bake, combine syrup and bring to slooooow boil. If it boils over, it will be a mess.

Pour syrup over baked Baklava. Be sure to pour over entire surface.

Finish cuts before serving.
